Whatcom Rowing Association
Whatcom Rowing Association (WRA) is a nonprofit community-based rowing club that has served Whatcom County since 2011. We are dedicated to offering individuals of all ages the opportunity to learn the sport of rowing in a safe, fun, and beautiful environment. WRA offers a variety of programs for all ages and experience levels. We believe the positive attributes of rowing are tangible across a lifespan and we are passionate about providing access to all. Whether you have previous experience or have never touched an oar we have something for you.

Learn to Row
This nine-week Learn to Row course is designed as an introduction to basic rowing technique. Athletes will learn proper rowing form and develop the skills, drills, tasks, and vocabulary needed to row safely. We will introduce you to the club and prepare you for many types of rowing shells.
Membership is not required to take Learn to Row classes.
Learn to Erg
Rowing indoors is a low impact cardio, full body workout. Learn to ‘Erg’ classes teach you the proper techniques, mechanics, and lingo of rowing on Concept II rowing machines. Why are they called ergs? Rowing machines are actually ergometers, which measure the amount of work a person does while rowing (think back to those high school science classes!).
Youth Programs
Whatcom Rowing Association’s Junior Program introduces youth ages 12 to 17 to the sport of rowing in a safe, supportive, and challenging environment. We offer coached classes for athletes of all skill levels, led by experienced coaches dedicated to helping each rower build confidence, develop technique, and succeed—both on and off the water.
Adult Programs
The experienced rowing classes are for rowers with previous rowing experience or for those that have completed Learn to Row 1 and 2 with coaches permission. Rowers need the skill and fitness to row 3 x 5 km intervals, 15 km each practice. Our goal is to build endurance, fitness, stamina and whole boat skills.
Erg Ed
The ERG ED®: Rowing in the Classroom curriculum is a nationally recognized and SHAPE aligned Physical Education unit that offers easy implementation and integration for teachers, schools, and administrators. Erg Ed is a partnership between Whatcom Rowing Association and The George Pocock Foundation.
